It
is of great importance to grasp an understanding of who the target audience is.
Media through time has created demographic social groups to gain the knowledge of what the people placed in them usually prefer. Although not all people placed in these groups may agree to some of the things they are stereotypically meant to like and dislike,
media focuses on the majority rather than the minority, providing a guideline for
what the final product for a group should be like.
Because of the decision to make the final product for this course, a modern, romantic almost pop like video, it is important to view the typical audience of the music video and videos of the same genre, to understand who is the target audience and what they would expect from the final product, looking at the majority.
The target audience for this project are both male and female. Although it may be argued that the character and animation style may be argued to be preferred by females, there are intentions to add gaming references to connect to males as well. This element may be seen as stereotypical, however, this idea could also be approved of by females as an increasing number of gamers are in fact female, allowing both genders to connect with a common interest. The age range for this product will from the ages of 12-16 years old, an age group that is up to date with technology, there have easier access to music through CDs, music channels, portable technology (e.g. tablets and mobiles), social websites and downloads. This age group is yet to reach adulthood, yet are no longer young children. This means that the audience is mature enough to understand the messages within the song, yet also are familiar to cartoon shows, linking to the simple style intended for the character designs.
The video will be able to express creativity while opening the audience up the adult world of love and how it can have an effect on people, while excepting that the little things a person has that are seen to them as faults may be seen, as the song being used states, are "perfect imperfections" to someone else.
