Categories of Music Videos - Concept - Oren Lavie "Her Morning Elegance"
A concept video is different to the conventions of other videos. Rather than using the "3 Second Rule" to cut to a new scene constantly, a concept based music video has the camera focus on one idea alone to give the target audience something to focus on. In a way, it is like a narrative yet sticks to one idea without looking at side characters or any other distractions from the main focus. An example of this is a video for the song "Her Morning Elegance".
Categories of Music Videos - Performance - The Kill "30 Seconds to Mars"
A performance based music video shows a singer/band performing in front of either an audience or a camera, to add excitement as if the target audience is really there listening to their favourite song live. This draws in more of a target audience and is usually used for a artists in a band (most likely in a Rock band). These videos are usually filmed during live stage performance, adding tension, thrills and energy throughout the video. An example of this is with the song "30 Seconds to Mars".
Categories of Music Videos - Narrative - Charli XCX "Boom Clap"
A narrative music video is a video that has the ability the use visual communication to tell a story throughout, linking to the lyrics of the song. This keeps the target audience's attention for longer and makes the video easier to remember. An example of this is in the song "Boom Clap" by Charli XCX, who created a song used in the popular film "The Fault in Our Stars", telling a romantic love story throughout. A lot of narrative music videos take relevant clips from films and edit it into the video to connect both together into one.

Song Idea 2 - "All Of Me"
John Legend "All Of Me"
Lyrics
What would I do without your smart mouth
Drawing me in, and kicking me out
Got my head spinning, no kidding
I can't pin you down
What's going on in that beautiful mind
I'm on your magical mystery ride
And I'm so dizzy,
Don't know what hit me,
But I'll be alright
My head's underwater
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh
How many times do I have to tell you
Even when you're crying
You're beautiful too
The world is beating you down,
I'm around through every mood
You're my downfall,
You're my muse
My worst distraction,
My rhythm and blues
I can't stop singing,
It's ringing, in my head for you
My head's underwater
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh
Give me all of you
Cards on the table,
We're both showing hearts
Risking it all,
Though it's hard
'Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you, oh

Intertextuality in Music Videos
Intertexuality is when one form of media references another, combining both together into one product. This can be used in any from of media from televisions shows, films and music videos. The media don't necessarily need to be the the same form of media to be referenced to be a from of intertexuality. For example, when looking at the filming industry the film "Quadrophenia" based on the 1960's (a film created by the band The Whos) was released in 1979, producing a poster that became famous because it was made in a time period when films were not promoted anywhere near to extent that they are now.
Years later in 2006, the film "This is England" based on the 1980s was created, with a poster that when placed next to each other, can clearly be seen to make reference to the "Quadrophenia" poster. Both show the cast lined up against a a fence, wearing clothing from their time periods. All of them are in laid back poses while of the group members wears a bowler hat. Although the photograph for "Quadrophenia"is in black and white while the photo for "This is England" is is colour, the colour of the title are identical: white, red and blue. This is to match the British flag, the location for both films.
"Coldplay" created another example of this in their music video "Strawberry Swing" in which the protagonist dresses up in a blue suit and red cape and then flies in the sky off into space, referencing the well known comic book hero "Superman", who also wears a blue suit and red cape. Not only does the costume link to the super hero, also the idea of flying into space, as "Superman", is famous for his action packed scenes when flying in space in both the comics, and flying off before the credits in early "Superman" films. In fact, one of "Superman's" famous moments was in first"Superman" movie, in which he flies around the world to reverse time.
Music videos try to reference media that is popular with the target audience, to attract more attention. The more attention for the video results in more people listening to the music and therefore more people wanting to buy the song, increasing profit. Both Medias promote each other. People who like comic book heroes would learn about the song, while people who like the song be grow interest in the comic book characters. This has been made easier throughout time with the increase in technology, allowing people to view music videos on televisions, phones, tablets and the internet on websites such as "Youtube".

Analysis of Professional Music Videos from my Chosen Genre - A-Ha "Take On Me"
In the previous post the music video “Take on Me” was mentioned for being a ground breaking video at the time it was released and continues to be just as imaginative to this day. This post will explain why this video is so impressive. Above is the music video which begins with still sketched images on men racing on motorbikes, which builds the tension and excitement for the overall theme involving the emotions that may come to mind when falling in love for the first time.
It is at this point that
the image most in a jumpy fashion, emphasising the idea that the woman is
flicking through a comic until the images seem to slowly become smoother in the
animation. At this point that the scene jumps to live action which seem very
different and down to earth to the comic world. This may symbolise the belief
that ‘opposites attract’. When the comic man’s hand reaches out of the page is
very effective, connect to very different worlds together, matching the tone of
the song. Once in the comic world, the animation is much smoother and
welcoming, as both the man and woman venture through the hand drawn universe,
which is sometimes interrupted by live action in the café. This could represent
the difficulties that may try to damage a relationship. Seeing the man break
the forth wall, entering the real world is like static on a television, as if
the man is willing to fight for love, therefore displaying the meaning to the
song title “Take On Me”.

Music Video Thoughts - Animation and Live Action
When thinking about creating a music video, animation comes
to mind as it allows for more ways to make a video suited to the chosen song as
anything is possible in animation from Stop-Motion to CGI and hand-drawn
animation. Move colours, images and styles can be added to an unpredictable
situation that can therefore break the laws of physics, resulting in an
animated video more entertained to watch. Not only can animation be made but
can also be combined with live action, mixing both the world of imagination and
reality together. An example of this is with the video to “Take on Me” by A-Ha!
This video won six awards in 1986 as the lets the love story of a woman falling
into a comic book styled world, after a hand reaches out of a page and takes
the woman’s hand. Although the video is older than the videos created with CGI
today, this video made a huge impact and still does to this day.
